Antonio Lyons takes floetry to new highs
I’VE had this CD for while now and it’s one of those I like to pop in the player when I’m alone at my flat. It’s poetry on a different level. It’s chilled, thought-provoking and makes you want to appreciate little things we take for granted, like friendship, love and life in general.
When I first got this CD, I wasn’t really going gaga over it. I didn’t really know the artist until I took a closer look on the CD cover and it hit me. Antonio played Lolo, Lumka Dlomo’s love interest on Generations.
Human Jewel is his debut album. It’s a 13-track CD and it’s strictly poetry with heavy influences of jazz, funk, soul, R&B and a bit of chilled house. Body Poetry is probably the most popular track. It has a deep house feel produced by the late DJ Iggy Smallz and Revolution. Its the kind of track you can play at a nightclub or at home on a Sunday morning.
Another hot track is a blues-influenced number titled Butterflies (featuring Hlubi Kwebulana). The swing gives it a nice vibe that will make you want to grab your partner for a slow dance.
Hustlers High is another hot joint if you love the strings of a bass guitar. This was one of the best albums to come out last year. It has taken the local floetry genre to new highs by embracing other popular music genres. I’ll recommend it for anyone who likes to try out something new. — Lindile Sifile
